Border Security

I’ve been wondering why no one has floated the idea of locating one or more of our military bases on the Mexican border.

This would get lots of troops stationed in the area, and patrolling the border would be something for them to do as training exercises, etc. It would probably also act as a deterrent to both illegal immigration and the drug-runners.

One of the problems with putting agents on the border is that they have to be sent there. If you had a military base or two located there, your manpower problem would be solved.

And, after all, it is a military problem.

Ever heard of Ft. Bliss (El Paso, TX)?

    Ft. Huachuca (Sierra Vista, AZ)?

Or, the Navy and Marine bases in San Diego?

    Hi, Jerry,
Well, no, actually. Silly of me not to check before posting what I thought was an original idea.

Is part of their regular duties border patrol?

Jerry may have surprised you with those bases, but like you, I don’t know if patrolling the border is part of their regular duties, and if it was, their rules of engagement would likely be different. They wouldn’t be allowed to engage the intruders like they would an actual enemy.
