I see a lot of noise on the news about the Democrats wanting bipartisan agreements on bills; they want the Republicans to meet them half-way. It’s almost magical (snort, cough), how all these Democrats are suddenly reaching across the aisle!
As far as I am concerned, they can stuff that noise. For two years, everything that has gone through congress has been unilaterally Democratic, and it has been an evil bunch of crap. And they had no compunction about straight-arming the Republicans, when it was the Republicans that wanted to participate in a bipartisan way.
The only good thing about those events is that the Democrats own it – all the evil crap they passed is owned by the Democrats. Republicans, generally speaking, will not share in the blame for those things.
There are only two reasons the Democrats want bipartisanship, all of a sudden: First, because of the 2010 election results they have no choice; and second, if the Republicans go along with the idea of bipartisanship, the Democrats will still get at least some of their radical leftwing agenda enacted in the next couple of years.
When they had a choice, Democrats decided to be unilaterally partisan. I’d rather see deadlock in congress than compromises that give the Democrats any more of what they want, for the next two years.
In fact, deadlock sounds pretty good. If nothing passes, at least they aren’t making it worse.
The Democrats have been leading this country over a cliff, just as fast as they can get there. I don’t see any reason to help them do it.
