Will the Republic Stand?

It is an old saying, I think back to Roman times, that “the Republic will only last until the citizens discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses”.

We are right in the middle of the biggest push to do this that the world has ever seen. Obama and the Democrats used this as a tactic to get elected, and will try to use it to stay in office.

But they have one problem – we’re now not only broke, but deeply in debt. Party’s over!

It’s time for the adults to take over again; you know, the ones who actually check their bank balance before spending large amounts of money.

Because, if we don’t, the republic will fall – just like Rome did. According to the reference, Rome fell because of the “gradual disintegration of the political, economic, military, and other social institutions of Rome and the barbarian invasions that were its final doom”.

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? We’ve got political ineptitude; economic near-collapse; massive reduction in military capability; social chaos; and “barbarian invasions” in the form of illegal aliens.
