There’s talk in congress about making it illegal to deny medical coverage or raise rates due to pre-existing conditions. For instance, if you were have lung cancer because you’ve smoked for thirty years, or scirrosis of the liver because you’ve been a drinker for a long time.
There’s also talk of charging 30% to 50% more for insurance for the obese.
Isn’t obesity a pre-existing condition? Just like those other examples?
It seems to me that if they’re going to charge more for obesity, they certainly also need to charge more for every other ailment resulting from self-destructive behavior.
