Liars!

There is a problem in America today that everyone knows about to some extent. It is coming to a head over the current political race for the presidency.

We can no longer trust most news sources to tell the truth. I’m not just talking about left-wing (or right-wing) blogs, here. I’m talking about major news carriers.

As examples, consider the recent activity in the news about Sarah Palin. Almost all reporting about her has been skewed sharply left. The only major news media that honestly attempts to clarify the reporting is Fox News. Of course, that’s why all the other media hate them. Liars don’t like it when anyone points out that they are liars.

Major distortions from the Associated Press, attempts to misrepresent what Palin actually said by ABC news in Charles Gibson’s extensive interview. The Washington Post’s blatant misrepresentation of the intent of her words regarding the war in Iraq and 9/11. National Public Radio with distortions about the Bridge to Nowhere. The front page of US Weekly which is in every check-out line in America. Washington Post prevarications.

And many more. Every single one of these articles either intentionally distorts the truth, or tells outright lies. I found those six articles in just one pass through the internet.

About all we can do is to go to the source transcripts of what was actually said and see if we agree with the spin these media are putting on it. The above examples show clearly that the news media are trying to influence how we think, and trying to control the outcome of the election. Propaganda in action, folks!

I see this whole scenario as a major problem. If we cannot trust the news media to report the news without distortion, how can we possibly make valid decisions?

Currently, most of the news media have a left-wing bias, and are pushing Obama for president. But if they will lie to us, and misrepresent news to us about those things, they could be lying to us about anything. Once trust is compromised, it is very hard to earn back.

As for me, when I catch them lying to me, I change the channel. And don’t go back.

Right now, Fox News is about the only one I watch regularly. They seem to skew slightly to the right, but when they report news as news and not opinion they don’t seem to misrepresent things. Or at least I haven’t caught them yet.

The current situation is not acceptable. And it’s not going to change unless we insist on change.

Anybody got any ideas how to correct this situation?
