Pelosi Playing Games

September 30, 2008

Speaker of the House, Pelosi (D) was playing a political game in the vote for the bailout bill yesterday.

From “The American Spectator”:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered her Majority Whip, Jim Clyburn, to essentially not do his job in the runup to the vote on Monday for the negotiated Wall Street bailout plan, according to House Democrat leadership aides.

“Clyburn was not whipping the votes you would have expected him to, in part because he was uncomfortable doing it, in part because we didn’t want the push for votes to be successful,” says one leadership aide. “All we needed was enough to potentially get us over the finish line, but we wanted the Republicans to be the ones to do it. This was not going to be a Democrat-passed bill if the Speaker had anything to say about it.”

In other words, the Democratic leadership wanted the bill passed, but they did not want to be seen as the party that passed it, because it was so massively unpopular. It was a setup to trap the Republicans into doing their dirty work for them, but the Republicans balked. The Democrat’s game backfired.

I am really, really tired of the political games these people are playing.

And guess what? In spite of not passing this bill that ‘had to be passed right now’ – the markets dived, but now they’ve rebounded 500 points.

Do we really need this fix at all? What are the options?

Motorcycle Entomology

September 30, 2008

Do you know, having a bee fly up your shirt sleeve while riding your motorcycle acts as an incredible distraction while simultaneously focussing the mind wonderfully!

I survived, the bee didn’t.

My arm hurt pretty good there for a while, but has now subsided. It’s beginning to itch a bit. All this happened at lunch yesterday.

Pelosi the Idiot

September 29, 2008

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just couldn’t resist trying to put the blame on President Bush for the current financial crisis. She said:

“When was the last time someone asked you for $700 billion? It is a number that is staggering, but tells us only the costs of the Bush administration’s failed economic policies — policies built on budgetary recklessness, on an anything goes mentality, with no regulation, no supervision, and no discipline in the system.”

At least partly, Pelosi’s mouth is the reason many Republicans in the House voted against the bill.

In addition, Pelosi claimed the Republicans were ‘unpatriotic’ for not showing up at a meeting – about which they didn’t know, and to which they were not invited.

When you are trying to get someone to vote for something, especially something you really, really want to have happen – you don’t tell them how it’s all their fault and call them names. Especially before they cast their votes.

At best, Pelosi is an idiot for slinging mud when she didn’t need to; untruthful mud, at that. At worst, she really is as stupid as she sounds. It’s got to be one or the other. Maybe both.

Whether this bill is the right solution, I don’t have the expertise to have a valid opinion. So I’m not really for or against the measure, except that I definitely do not want a depression.

But I do know stupid when I see it. And I will bet you good money that Pelosi will now turn around and blame the Republicans for the failure of the measure to pass. Thereby perpetuating her stupidity, and destroying any chance for a bipartisan solution.

Relating to blame for the actual financial fiasco inself, I’d like to restate some things I’ve already pointed out:

Five years ago, President Bush tried to get legislation introduced that would have provided oversight for Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae. The Democrats blocked his attempt.

Two years ago, Senator McCain tried to get legislation introduced that would have provided oversight for Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae. The Democrats blocked his attempt.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac give campaign contributions to many congressmen. The top three, in order of amount of donation, are: Christopher Dodd (D) $165,400, Barack Obama (D) $126,349 and John Kerry (D) $111,000.

And, yes, there are Republicans on the list, too. John McCain comes in number 62, with $21,550.

DO you suppose, just possibly, the failure of oversight of congress on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is because these influential Democrats are on the payroll? Not literally on the payroll, of course, but – on the other hand – these companies gave each of these congress critters more money than I make in two years! So why would they do that if they didn’t expect a return on their money?

Oh, and, has Barack Obama done anything to prevent this? NO, of course not. They were paying him! (Oh, ‘scuse me, they were merely donating to his campaign).

Shucks, Obama’s still not in Washington trying to manage this mess. Obama is still off campaigning somewhere. A sterling example of his leadership skills.

If these facts together do not constitute a demonstration of how Democrats do business, I don’t know what will.

I’m more than a wee bit ticked off at Nancy Pelosi and her self-righteous speech – from everything I can see, the Democrats have way more blame here than the Republicans, who on at least two occasions tried to implement oversight that would have prevented this entire debacle, being stopped BOTH times by Democrats!

But NONE of them are innocent.

Obama’s Police-State Tactics

September 28, 2008

Read this article on Hot Air. I’d repeat it, but it’s very clear and links to all the sources. Good job, Allahpundit!

Obama’s “truth squads” – check it out! It seems to be not too far short of the Gestapo. Obama’s “truth squads” are commonly employing tools of intimidation – right now, threats of legal action. They are frightening people into silence.

Obama wants to suppress, well, people like me; people with opinions that differ with his. The only difference between Obama’s “truth squads” and the Gestapo is one of degree – Hitler’s Gestapo carried the intimidation right on into incarceration, physical violence and murder.

Obama’s respect for the First Amendment lasts right up until you disagree with him.

This clearly demonstrates Obama’s stand on the First Amendment. We already know what his take is on the Second Amendment. How many more Amendments is he going to bend, or disregard completely?

Do we really want a president that thinks ‘truth squads’ are a good idea?

Bailout!

September 26, 2008

The Democrats have enough votes to pass the bailout plan without Republican participation – that’s what ‘controlling the congress’ means.

However, if they pass the bailout and it fails, they would be seen as the ones at fault. They haven’t got the gumption to do what they believe is right, even to save the country from a potential depression, without getting the Republicans on board to share the (potential) blame.

Democrats – putting politics above the welfare of the country. Again.

Just like Obama, now that I think about it, with his insistence on a debate at a time when the country is at risk. I believe he said something along the lines of “Call me if you need me – I’ve got a debate to prepare for”. Priorities.

And they are trying to put the blame on McCain for the hold-up. Let’s get this straight. McCain is not the hold-up, it’s the Democat’s fear of acting decisively and actually taking responsibility for something. If they had the guts, they’d get it done.

Predictable.

Here’s an Idea…

September 26, 2008

Hey, everybody! The congress can’t seem to get their act together to save the economy. This Democrat controlled congress has the lowest approval rating in history. The congress-critters obviously aren’t doing their jobs.

We need to hold them accountable. Democrats, Republicans – it doesn’t matter.

In the private sector, when somebody doesn’t do their job, they lose it.

We need to get a grass-roots movement going. When the elections roll around, regarding congressional positions, lets see if we can’t get a majority of voters to vote against the incumbent, in every case.

Let’s kick ‘em out, and send a message!

All you Senators and Representatives – get your act together, or find another line of work!

After all, that’s what voting is for!!

Pass the word!

McCain: Country First

September 25, 2008

McCain went to Washington to take a hand in solving the financial crisis.

Obama had to be called in like a recalcitrant school kid, to get him to participate.

Leadership. Country first.

Yes, it reads like an ad. But it’s the truth. Enough said.

Why I’m Not Voting for Obama – revisited

September 24, 2008

Howdy, folks. No new news here; but I inadvertently uploaded the original article three times, in the course of updating it. Since people may have links to one of these versions, I am leaving all three versions up. But here is the current version of the article.

Sorry for any inconvenience.
